Born about 1440 [uncertain] in Eardisley, Herefordshire, England [uncertain]

Died [date unknown] [location unknown]

Biography

John Baskerville was the second son of Sir John Baskerville and Elizabeth Touchet.[1][2][3][4][5]

His year of birth is unknown and is estimated as c 1440.

Robinson[3] described him as of Wellington, Herefordshire.

John Baskerville Esq was noted in the Inquisition Post Mortem of his elder brother Sir James Baskerville in 1499 regarding the manor of Stretton, Herefordshire.[6]

Marriage

John Baskerville married Eleanor, daughter and heir of Thomas Holcott/Holcote of Wootton/Wotton in Wellington, Herefordshire.[1][2][3][4]

Children

He may have had a son William Baskerville.[2][5]

Burke[2] stated that John Baskerville had a son William Baskerville of Wotton who had three daughters: Eleanor; Joan who married Richard Monington of Westhide, Herefordshire; and Jane Baskerville who married Thomas Pembruge of Mansel Gamage, Herefordshire.

The William Baskerville of Wotton who had three daughters appears to have died around 1539.[7] Perhaps there is a generation missing between John Baskervile Esq. and William Baskerville of Wotton.

Robinson[3] appears to have missed at least one generation in his Baskerville pedigree which did not show William Baskerville as a son of John Baskerville but instead placed the 'three daughters' as daughters of John Baskerville himself.

A Cecily Baskerville born [guesstimate] 1465, daughter of a John Baskerville, married Nicholas Steward of Norfolk.[8][9] Whether this John Baskerville was her father is unknown.
