An article posted by the Dictionary of Welsh Biography about the Herbert family[3] says that Richard was one of Edward's 11 children, giving the following information about two branches of Herberts:
-
"...RICHARD HERBERT ... founded the line of Herbert of Cherbury, later united with that of Dolguog, founded by Edward Herbert's second son. The third son CHARLES , probably of Magdalen College, Oxford, was a Munster planter with his kinsman Sir William Herbert , sheriff of Montgomeryshire in 1603, and acquired, through his wife, Jane, daughter of Hugh ab Owen, the neighbouring estate of Aston. He was the father of Sir Edward Herbert ."[3]
