Marriage
He married Margaret [surname uncertain].[1]
A plea from Michaelmas 1 Henry V [1413] by John Baskerville[1] indicated that John's father was Richard Baskerville and his mother was Margaret and that she subsequently married Nicholas de Montgomery.[1]
Margaret, widow of Nicholas Montgomery, was living on 20 Feb 1436/1437.[31][32]
She is unlikely to have been Margery/Margaret Foljambe, daughter of Sir Godfrey Foljambe, who has been noted as a wife of Nicholas de Montgomery.[33][34] Margaret Foljambe may have been an earlier wife of Nicholas de Montgomery.
It has been suggested that the Margaret who married Richard Baskerville may have been a Margaret de Ardern, daughter of Sir Henry de Ardern.[35] This was based on:
13 Dec 1381: "Grant to Henry de Ardern, ‘chivaler’, and John Wydevyle of the county of Northampton, .. of the marriage of Richard, son and heir of Richard Baskervyll, a minor in the king’s ward for 100 marks .."[36]
Others[2][3][6][7][8][9] placed Joan de Everingham, daughter of Adam de Everingham of Laxton, as the wife of Richard but did not provide sources. However, this Richard married Margaret. Joan de Everingham was his mother and not his wife.
