Carrie was born on 13 JUN 1865 in New Castle, Lawrence, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Alpine McGregor Matheny and Elizabeth Reed.

She died on 12 DEC 1947 in Noble County, Indiana.

She had two marriages/partners. Her first husband was Frank Clinton Ross, who she married in 1883 in Springfield, Missouri. Their two known children were Levinah (1884-1909) and Belle Margaret (1891-?).

Her second husband was Joseph Augustus Whitford, who she married on 23 JUN 1909 in Noble County, Indiana. They had no known children.
