While Margaret bap 1538 is most likely the daughter of Nicholas Hotchkiss abt 1515 son of Sir Roger and grandson of Sir John [and great grandson of Wiliam Hotchkiss 1408 - 1503 died Norfolk], an alternative theory suggests that William Hotchkiss 1506-1536, son of Richard Hotchkiss, brother of Sir John Hotchkiss [and grandson of William Hotchkiss 1408 - 1503 died in Norfolk], could also be her father. William’s family had stronger ties to Norfolk, where he and his father and grandfather lived and died, and the timing of his early death in 1536 [possibly due to the plague] aligns with Margaret’s birth in 1537. The delay in Margaret’s baptism could be explained by the financial struggles faced by his widow after his death. However, due to the lack of direct evidence of marriage or children, this remains a plausible but unproven alternative.
