George’s birth certificate was changed from Hodgkiss to Hotchkiss 11/1/1949. It appears he had a provident savings account and wished to draw money out to go on holiday and to prove who he was he had to produce his birth certificate. This showed a different surname to the one listed on the account. His brother, John Edward, and sister, Eliza, had to witness the change to the certificate.
