!Notes: Eva and two of her sisters, Marie and Jeanette, were made deaf while very young by scarlet fever. Her other siblings avoided the disease. All three were educated at St.. Francis School for the Deaf in St.. Francis, Wisconsin.
!P: Her husband, LeRoy, had also been made deaf by a childhood disease. He and several brothers were orphaned at an early age and went to different areas of the United States to be raised by relatives.
