Note 1
!Notes: To get to Samuel from his daughter Hannah's marriage to Francis Krill in Ludlow, notice that there are 4 other Hotchkiss marriages in Ludford at about the same time [Hary, Ann, Samuel, and Jeremiah - from 1795 to 1808]. Could these all be from the same family? After a check of the records, all of these except Hary show up as belonging to the same family! The chances of this are very small. There are no other records for Hary [m. 1795 to Sarah Owins] anywhere [we may look under other related names - like Henry, or perhaps Hary was a knick-name for one Richard or Thomas]. Also, these are the only Hotchkiss records in Ludford, although there are plenty of others nearby. Once we accept that this is likely to be the family of Samuel and Francis of Clunbury, there is only one Samuel Hotchkiss, of a reasonable age recorded born or christened in Clunbury.
