Hugh was born in 1877 in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland, the son of Thomas Daisley and Janet Sharp.
His wife was Mary Ellen Cairns. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their three known children were Jean Sneddon (1902-?), Elizabeth (1904-?) and Jessie Sharp (1906-?).
