Lewis was born about 1779 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, the son of William Finney and Elizabeth Sherman.
His wife was Elizabeth Weston, who he married on 4 FEB 1804. The place has not been found. Their five known children were Eliza Sherman (c1805-?), Lewis (c1807-?), Pelham (1811-1868), Angeline (c1812-?) and Harrison (1814-?).
