Pelatiah was born about 1750 in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, the son of Pelatiah Phinney and Mercy Washburn.
His wife was Mary Randall. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their two known children were Ithamar (1765-1840) and Salmon (c1767-?).
