Abraham was born about 1736, the son of Samuel Pettibone but his mother is unknown. The place is not known.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Mercy Humphrey. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. They had no known children.

His second wife was Jerusha Pinney. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their ten known children were Abraham (1751-1834), Jerusha (1753-1815), Samuel (1755-1778), Elizabeth (1756-1784), Theodore (1761-1821), Alexander (1763-1801), Chauncey (1766-1801), Theophilus (1769-1834), Charlotte (1772-1855) and Norman (1774-1814).
