Isabella was born about 1787 in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Alexander Selkirk and Catherine Powis.

She died on 15 MAY 1871 in Langloan, Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland.

Her husband was Robert Rankin, who she married on 2 MAR 1810 in Hutchestown, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. Their nine known children were William (1810-?), Catherine (1812-1884), Margaret (1814-1869), Alexander (1816-1862), James (1818-?), Jane (1820-1885), Anne (1822-?), Mary (1826-?) and Isobel (1828-c1903).
