vening - I hope you do not mind me contacting you but I may have some historical documents that relate the Hotchkiss Family.

A month ago I brought a box of misc. documents at an auction in Wales, UK, the box contained a number of items I collect. Anyway I have been going through the various documents and have found a number relating to a Samual Hotchkiss plus other family members including marriage partners. All relate to various accounts, land transactions etc.

Looking at your web site I noticed you made reference to the Hotchkiss of Shropshire so you may be interested in these items.

I have not put them into any order but I believe they date from the end of the 1800's to the early 1900's

Let me know if these would be of interest to you

I did try emailing you but message was returned undelivered, address not recognised

Regards Neil

Hi, you have my ggg grandfather Samuel Hotchkiss b 1798 in Ringley Lancashire England, on your tree.
I have been researching his descendants for many years, and have lots of details that I would be pleased to add to your tree. If you are interested, can you let me know how to get my tree to you.
Thanks

Admin reply: I tried emailing at the number provided, but delivery failed. Try emailing me at the contact us link on the main page, and let me know to look there with a message here, as otherwise it may take me awhile to find it there. I don't use that email often as being exposed on the site, it gets too much junk mail.

I've added yet another update to my website.
The Genealogy now includes 26,645 individuals and 8,678 families.
The Hotchkiss line is now back to about 1280 AD.
I've continued to fill in and organize the records prior to 1630.
This required going through another type of records which included
legal records such as wills, deeds, apprenticeship, elections, heraldry,
college and guild records, as the more direct records, such as church records
don't go back this far. I've made another pass through all of the pre-1630 entries,
taking these records and trying to associate the earlier church records
with these other records. I've also reworked the main page of the website
a bit, bringing in more information on interesting topics such as
Norman castles, knights, arms, manors, and old legends.
I hope you all enjoy. As always, constructive comments are welcome.
If your line isn't either here or in the Hotchkiss Family association
records and you have records going back at least to those who are deceased,
so that I can pick up the trail, please send them along and I will try to
take them further back. At this point, I'm hoping that maybe the Hotchkiss
Family Association might be willing to provide a GEDCOM file, so that
I could load their detail since Samuel, as I don't really want to re-type
all their work and the lines are now connected.

I was born and adopted out as an infant. My birth mom is a Hotchkiss from WI, and ties back to England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland and also has Native American blood from her mom's side. Looking forward to connecting our lines.

I am adding another update.
There will now be 8645 families and 26573 individuals.
The main difference is that I've now included all of the available records that I have going back to the 1500's and 1400's and fit them into the family tree. It should be noted that these records are somewhat different than those which came after. Prior to Queen Elizabeth and King James, the church was not required to keep records and often didn't. It did so more often for the gentry. When it did, they were not as helpful. For example, there are many baptismal records with only the child's name. If the parents were recorded, they might include only the father. Even a marriage record might include only the husband's name. Thus putting them together is much more like putting together a jigsaw puzzel and much less a sure thing. None the less I have gone under the assumption that most people managed to get recorded at least once in their life, and used all of the clues available, such as proximity to put them together into a family tree. I find that putting all the records together makes them much more accurate and useful, than looking at them separately, as you quickly find that if you put them together wrong, the next record will often force you to move the incorrect one to a better place. Thus I have managed to put all the records prior to 1630 together and for the first time united them all into a single tree. They all fit and go back to around 1450. Please take this with a grain of salt. There may be records missing which could change things around. I'm sure as I make more passes through the records, I will find those which have been misplaced. Two John's may have their death dates or even their wives mixed up. Certainly, those children baptized without their parents listed may be with the wrong parent, even though I've tried to pick those parents shown to be living in the correct location and having children at the correct time. It is a bit of a fantasy, complete with knights, and clergy, and other gentry. There is even a great mystery involving Richard III. Enjoy.
