I updated this website. The new contents are as follows:
1. Some current Hotchkiss records.
2. Research on the line that left Hawkeswood for Scotland, now mostly known as Huskie.
3. Some additional research around the Shropshire visitation of 1663.

Hello, I am from the California branch of the Hotchkis family (one S). My grandfather was Preston Hotchkis (1893-1988); his full given name was James Samuel Preston Hotchkis but he always went by Preston. I know a lot about him but hardly anything about his parents or grandparents. I do know his father died when young Preston was 14, so that would have been 1907. We had a few relatives living in Scotland - a Dunmore and Anna Hotchkis (probably deceased now). I visited them once in their sweet cottage home in 1985 and met their son James, who was a little older than me, maybe born circa 1955? IDK. I was born in 1962.

I would love to know which “line” of Hotchkisses we descend from. Any idea?

Admin reply: I have your grandfather on this website, but under his name as found in the records. This is a very interesting branch of the family. I will email you. The url for your grandfather is: http://hotchkissclan.org/gen/INDIs/II25083.html

Yesterday I made my first update the the hotchkiss clan.org site this year. It has a variety of additions:
1. Merged in over 4000 person GEDCOM file from Daniel Shawn Huffman. I already had a few hundred of these based on the marriage of John Thomas Huffman and Janet Hotchkiss in 1872. A portion of these came from my contact with Dan and his website as much as 20 years ago. That site has been gone for some time and Dan gave me his up to date GEDCOM data.
2. Hundreds of additional pictures.
3. Updates of recent events to my nearer Hotchkiss and Woolery lines.
4. The first transcription from Hotchkiss documents gathered during my trip to England last year. These are handwritten medieval or renasance documents, often written on parchment, with quill pens, and many times in Latin. I'll be adding more of these but they are slow work. The first is an indenture or lease agreement where Ralph Broke of Bobbington leases to John Hochekys of Swindon, labourer a meadow in Kingswinford for 21 years at 15s 4d p.a. in 1567.
Updates to descendants of Joseph C Irwin and Susan Hunter Hotchkiss.
5. Finish updates from Scottish Gravesite pictures from last year's visit.

I am researching the ancestry of my grandsons. Their last name is Camolli. Their great grandfather was Edward Rensford Hotchkiss born 1901. Sometime around 1930-40 he changed his name to Camolli. Edward's son was Thomas Camolli and his son was Jason Camolli. Is there anyone who knows when and why this name change was made? Edward's father was Edward Zina Hotchkiss . I follow them back to John Hotchkiss (1580)in England

I'm still trying to find my relationship to you. :-)

Breck is my neice and I have a lot more information that I could share.

Do you have an email that I can send it a GEDCOM to?

Thank you for doing this. Yours is much more extensive than mine.

Hi all,
My great grandmother was Maggie Hotchkiss b 1874/75 , daughter of Cornelius Hotchkiss and Margaret Watson. Our strand of the family have stayed in Scotland although I moved to NZ in 1995. Looks like the Hotchkiss clan are scattered far and wide. Happy to hear from anyone who wants to get in touch.
Dee

Admin reply: Dee,
While I have some of Cornelius' descendants by his first wife Margaret, I have very little from Margaret Watson's children. I would appreciate anything you could give us on their families.
Thank you
Rex

I am so happy to come across this website.
Hotchkiss is my birth surname and my current name.
I have a lot of my Hotchkiss family history into
the 1800's from Minnesota, but I am looking for more information to share with my family.
I am still in touch with my father's cousins.
I would love to share and hear from any of you.
Thank you.
Robin Hotchkiss

Came across my name on this site by accident. Good work, very interesting ! I've always wondered about my heritage, and this confirms where my patriotic Scottish nature comes from haha!
