Katherine [Lumley] Chidiok [Lady Stafford / Lady Arundell]

Widow of Sir John Chidiok [d. 1450], Katherine received her dower in May 1450 and died 2 June 1461. Her two daughters became co-heiresses:

Katherine Chidiok, b. c. 1431, m. [1] William Stafford of Stinsford [slain 1450]; [2] Sir John Arundell of Lanherne [d. 1473]; [3] Sir Roger Lewknor of Lockerley.

Margaret Chidiok, b. c. 1433, m. Sir William Stourton [Knight].

From this point, and actually since the death of Sir Robert FitPaen II, the FitzPaen barony lies in abeyance between his two daughters and their descendants.

> Legal Outcome

“On 18 May 1450 the coheirs had livery of their purparties of the inheritance …

Among their representatives any hereditary Barony, that may be supposed to have been created by the writ of 1299, is in abeyance.”

This is Cokayne’s formal closure: the FitzPaen barony [created by writ 1299] remains in perpetual abeyance among the descendants of these two women — meaning the Arundells of Lanherne and the Stourtons of Stourton were coheirs to the blood but not revived peers.
