Family

William Cavendish had a total of 16 children by three different wives. His first wife was Margaret Bostock; they had five children, but only three daughters survived:

Catherine, who married Thomas Brooke, son of Lord Cobham

Mary

Ann, who married Sir Henry Boynton in 1561, the son of Edward Bayntun and Isabel Leigh, Lady Bayntun, the half-sister of Queen Katherine Howard

Margaret, died in 1540

In 1542, he was married to Elizabeth Parker; she had three children, none of whom survived. She died after giving birth to a stillborn daughter in 1546.

In 1547, he married Bess of Hardwick.[4] He sold his property in Suffolk and moved to Bess's native county of Derbyshire. He purchased the Chatsworth estate in 1549 and the couple began to build Chatsworth House in 1552.[5]

In the ten years before he died, they had eight children, six of whom survived infancy:

Mary Cavendish , married Gilbert Talbot, 7th Earl of Shrewsbury. Their daughter Alethea Talbot Howard is an ancestor of the 5th and later Dukes of Norfolk.

Robert Pierrepont, 1st Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull

Robert Pierrepont, 1st Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull was an English nobleman who joined the Royalist side in the English Civil War after some delay and became lieutenant-general of the counties of Lincoln, Rutland, Huntingdon, Cambridge and Norfolk. He was killed in a friendly fire incident after being captured by Parliamentary forces.

Early life

Pierrepont was the second son of Sir Henry Pierrepont of Holme Pierrepont, Nottinghamshire, and his wife Frances Cavendish,[1] a daughter of Sir William Cavendish and Bess of Hardwick. His sister became Grace, Lady Manners, of Haddon Hall.

Sir Henry Pierrepont was an English MP who resided at Holme Pierrepont, Nottinghamshire.

Family

He was the son of Sir George Pierrepont and succeeded him in 1564. His mother, Winnifred née Twaits, remarried Sir Gervase Clifton. He married Frances Cavendish, daughter of the Rt. Hon. Sir William Cavendish and Elizabeth Hardwick.

Life

He was elected as Member of Parliament for Nottinghamshire in 1572, and then took up a series of local appointments, becoming a Justice of the Peace around 1573, High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire in 1575–76 and 1601–02, and Recorder of Nottingham in 1603. He was knighted in April 1603.

Memorial

His memorial is in St. Edmund's Church, Holme Pierrepont.
