!Note: Robarte Hawkins was likely born around 1 January 1560 , with his baptism delayed until 4 August 1560. Margery, his mother, appears to have conceived again almost immediately — by early February — and gave birth to her sixth child, Katherine, around 30 October 1560. The close spacing likely proved fatal: Margery died on the same day or shortly after Katherine's birth. Just three days later, on 2 November 1560, John Hawkins married Ellen Hitchis — a common and urgent response in early modern England, where infant survival often depended on securing a nursing mother immediately.
