Deacon Joseph was the son of JOHN & HANNAH IVES of Wallingford, CT and grandson of WILLIAM & HANNAH IVES of New Haven, CT and NATHANIEL & JOAN MERRIMAN of Wallingford, CT.
He married ESTHER BENEDICT on May 11, 1697 in Wallingford, CT. He was one of the first settlers of Cheshire to receive a homelot. The house he built and where his family was raised is still standing . It's now a private residence.
In 1726, Deacon Ives was chosen as one of a committee of three to find a suitable burying ground.
Their daughter, ABIGAIL SPERRY , who is my ancestor, married DANIEL SPERRY and they are buried in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Hamden.
