Comments: My great=grandmother was Jane McDougal Hotchkies from Bothkennar Parish. She married Archibald Reid around 1879. They lived in Falkirk and had one son, John Reid. Jane Hotchkies died in November 1924 or thereabouts and is buried in Falkirk Cemetery. John Reid married Jessie Bennie around 1910. Their first child, Jessie Reid, is my mother. Jane Hotchkies had a sister, Janet. I discovered from your website that Janet married Alexander Shaw and lived in Motherwell.
I suspect that Cornelius Hotchkies moved to Scotland from Shropshire because the Carron Iron Works were set up in 1759 or 1760. They were the biggest iron works in Europe at that time and consumed huge amounts of coal and iron ore.
