!Notes: Ada Washington was born at her parent's home one mile south and one mile west of the downtown Burlingame, Osage County, Kansas intersection of Main Street and Auborn road. Ada attended school in Burlingame from 1899 to 1907, when she grad uated from 8th grade. She began working at various jobs at homes in the Burlingame area, and grew into a fine young lady.
!P: She met James Gimm during 1907. James was born in Davenport, Iowa, and had come to Burlingame at an early age. He was a likable young man, well known in Burlingame, considered a respectable young man, and held in the esteem of all who knew h im in Burlingame. At that time he had worked at various coal mines in and around Burlingame, including the one owned and operated by James Washington. He had also worked as a carpenter, for which he was well remmembered.
!P: Ada and James Gimm were married 6 Apr 1908, in Burlingame, Osage County, Kansas. They made their home two blocks east and three blocks north of the downtown Burlingame intersection of Main Street and Auborn Road (where the John Giacino home st ood). To this union were born four children: Emily Merrieka, George James, Glenn Wood, and Charles Eugene. Emily started to school in Burlingame in 1915, as did George in 1917.
!P: In the period following World War I, many families, which had lived in Burlingame for a long time, were leaving Kansas for better jobs in other parts of the United States. At this time (1919 to 1920) Ada and James Gimm moved their family of f our children to Davenport, Iowa, where James had been born. Following their relocation, all of the children completed their schooling in and around Davenport, Iowa.
!P: Sometime after moving to Davenport, Ada and James purchased or constructed a home on a hill in the Northeast part of Le Claire, Iowa (with Post Office address: R.R. No. 1, Bettendorf, Iowa). Later children and grandchildren built two other h omes on the same road and hill, next to their parent's home. At the present time the hill is referred to as Gimm's Hill. This area is near Pleasant Valley, Iowa, and is often refered to as being in that town.
!P: Ada and James lived to see all of their children well established, with homes and substantial jobs of their own choosing. Presumably, they must have felt proud and contented with this achievement. James Gimm passed away at 73 years of age o n 2 Dec 1955. He was buried in the Memorial Park at Davenport, Iowa. Ada Gimm lived only a few months longer, and passed away in her home, from a heart attack at 62 years of age on 26 Dec 1955. She was buried along side her husband. They wer e survived by four children and a number of great-grandchildren, as well as many other friends and relatives in both Davenport and Burlingame.
!P: Ada's Sevices were held at McGinnis Funeral Home, in Bettendorf, at 3:15 PM on a Wednesday. The Rev. George A. Magnuson, pastor of Grandview Baptist Church, Davenport, officiated.
