!P: Simon Joseph Thyr was born in Ostergatland, Sweden on August 25, 1883, the second child of Oscar and Johanna Thyr. He died Tuesday, January 21, at his home in Osage City at the age of 80.
!P: He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Sweden on May 15, 1897. He learned the blacksmith and horse shoeing trade in Sweden which he followed for 51 years.
!P: He came to the United States to Kansas City, Mo., in 1906 and worked in wagon shops until 1919 when he moved to Olsburg, Kansas where he operated a blacksmith shop until 1950 when poor health forced him to retire. He served on the church boar d both as Deacon and Trustee for many years, was a member of the City Council for 10 years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was married to Marie Johnson in Kansas City October 4, 1913. To this union one daughter, Elvira, was born. Hi s wife died March 22, 1929. He married Anna M. Olson May 3, 1930. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death as did one in infancy.
!P: Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Anna Thyr, of the home, a daughter, Elvira Marie, of Chicago; and two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Sorensen, of Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Selma Blackman of Sweden; and several nieces and nephews.
!P: Funeral services for Mr. Thyr will be held Thursday afternoon, two o'clock in the Grace Lutheran Church in Osage City with the Rev. Carl Gustafson officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery. --
