!Source: Lyn Russo nee Smith. Notes for MARY LYONS: Mary was born in Cork Ireland to John Lyons (farmer) and Leonora McCarthy, in about 1843.. Names were given on her marriage certificate. Born in Mitchelstown. She arrived on the ship "Wallasea" o n the 27th September 1865 in the single womens quarters. (see Lang file for copy of passenger list). Reel 2140, 2483. Stated that she came from Mitchelltown (or Mitchelstown) Co Cork. R/C. Religion and her parents were John Lyon (Farmer) and Honor a McCarthy, Mitcheltown Co,Cork Ireland. The Wallasea departed Plymouth on 30th May 1865. Her Relation in colony was Robrt Johnson her cousin from Clarencetown on the Williams River NSW. From the Sydney Morning Herald September 1865: Shipping Arri vals: September 27th Wallasea, ship, 1440 tons, Captain Corry from Plymouth 30th May. Passengers - 434 Government immigratns. O.A. Lloyd and Co. agents. On board Imports were: Wallasea, from London: 52 packages. J. Issacs; 200 cases, 25 hogshead , Scott, Henderson and Co: 180 casks, Loarmonth, Dickinson and Co: 39 packages, Owen and Berkett: 46 packages, S. Bennett and Co: 200 casks,W. Cary: 2 cases, H and J. Spyer: 150 packages, Parbury, Brothers: 2 cases, E. Arnold: 50 hogsheads, W. Lon g: 100 packages, Campbell and Co: 22 packages, Dangar, Gilchrist and Co: 2 packages, Young, Lark and Bennett: 686 packages, F. Lassetter: 1 bin, R. and F. Tooth and Co: 64 packages, Broomfield and Whitaker: 10 packages, E. Chapman and Co: 30 packa ges, Vennard and Stevens: 1 case, G. Moore: 436 packages, D. Customs House: The im migrant ship Wallasea, bringing a full complement of passengers, under the superintendence of Dr. Newbold, arrived yesterday from Plymouth. She sailed on the 30th May: she crossed the Equator on the 12th July and passed the meridian of the Cape o f Good Hope on the 17th August, and on the 18th wass off Cape Otway. She made Bird Island on the 25th and was off these Heads on the night of the 30th. Light winds have prevailed throughout the passage. The only casualty has been one death ( a fem ale). Vessels Spoken by the Wallasea - June 17th, Asterope, from London to Wellington 27 days out, latitude 10-11 N., longitude 26.23 w,: June 29, Peter Denny, Glasgow to Otago, 26 days out, latitude 9.31 N., longitude 26.53 W. n.b. There is anoth er family of Lyons on the same ship: Lyons, Cornelius 31, Honor 33, Margaret 6, Catherine 5, Mary 3, Julia 1. Reel 2140, 2483. Checked the sponsership and parentage and native place and are not the same as Mary. So probably no relation. Mary die d at Wentworth Street, Plattsburgh, district of Wallsend on 20th January 1904 of Hepatic Cirrhosis. Dr. H. Bean attended. She is buried at the R/C Cemetery at Wallsend on 22nd January 1904. R/C. Priest Joseph Kelly. Reg No. 1904/3492. The informan t was her son John Lang of Plattsburgh. On her death certificate the children are listed as: Agnes 34, John 33, Leanora 31, Alexander 29, Barbara 28, Mary E 26, Elizabeth 23, William 21 Living. None deceased.
